Peugeot 807 Camshaft Sensor Error

My 2006 Peugeot 807 diesel with 217023 km is hard to start, and engine power is reduced. Error memory says the camshaft sensor is defective, but the sensor seems fine. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the source?

I had a similar issue with my 807. Poor starting and reduced power definitely ring a bell. Before replacing the sensor, did you check the wiring harness? Sometimes, the insulation can crack or the connector corrode, leading to lost signal. It's like a loose wire in a lamp; the bulb is fine, but it won't light up if the connection is bad. Have you ruled out any timing issues?

Thanks! I did a visual inspection of the wiring harness, but I didn't check the continuity with a multimeter. I assumed the visual inspection was enough, but perhaps I was too hasty. Regarding timing issues, how would I go about checking that on this engine? Could a slight timing misalignment trigger a camshaft sensor error?

You're right to be thorough. A visual inspection can be misleading; corrosion can hide. Continuity testing is key. As for the timing, it's not a straightforward DIY job without the right tools. While a slightly misaligned timing could trigger a camshaft sensor error, it's more likely the electrical connection, given your symptoms appeared suddenly. Given the error code and your symptoms, I think you should go to a workshop. If it is the connector, it shouldn't be too expensive.

It was as suspected. My local garage confirmed the cable or plug connection was defective. The repair cost was 95€ Thanks for the advice!
