Peugeot 807 EGR Valve Issue

My 2002 Peugeot 807 with a diesel engine has diminished power, check engine light, excessive smoke, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a hissing sound when accelerating. The car has 234979 km on the clock. Could this be a defective EGR valve? What are your thoughts?

The hissing intensifies with the engine's RPM. Does this confirm the EGR valve, or could there be other factors? Is there a way to test it?

Yeah, pretty much confirms it. The hissing is probably exhaust leaking past a jammed valve. No simple test, really. Time to visit the workshop, I'd say.

I visited a workshop, and the diagnosis confirmed a defective EGR valve. The replacement cost 355€. The car's performance is much improved.
