Peugeot 807 Immobilizer Issue

My 2006 Peugeot 807 with a gasoline engine is having a weird issue. It has about 109152 km. Sometimes, the engine just won't start. Other times, it starts for a second and then dies. I checked with an OBD scanner and there is an error stored related to the immobilizer. Could it be a key signal problem? Any ideas on what to check before taking it to a mechanic?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Peugeot 807 was experiencing starting issues, with the engine either not starting or dying shortly after starting. An OBD scanner indicated an immobilizer error, suggesting a potential key signal problem. It was advised to try a spare key, which resolved the issue, indicating the original key had lost its programming. The original key was successfully reprogrammed at a local shop, resolving the immobilizer issue.

Sounds like a classic case of immobilizer gremlins. Is the security light flashing when this happens? The immobilizer is like a bouncer at a club; if it doesn't recognize the key, it won't let the engine party. Have you tried using your spare key to see if the problem persists?

Yes, the security light is indeed flashing. I haven't tried the spare key yet. If the spare key works, does that mean the original key is faulty or is it still an immobilizer issue?

If the spare key works, it strongly suggests the original key has lost its programming, like a radio station drifting off frequency. While it could still be an immobilizer fault, it's more likely just the key. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop with the right diagnostic tools. They can read the immobilizer data and reprogram the key if needed. Messing with the immobilizer bypass without proper knowledge can lead to bigger problems. It's like trying to perform surgery with a butter knife!

I tried the spare key, and the car started right up! I took the original key to a local shop, and they were able to reprogram it for just 45€. Problem solved! Thanks so much for your help!
