Peugeot Boxer Crankshaft Sensor Issue

I've checked the wiring to the crankshaft sensor visually and see no damage or loose connections, but I haven't done a continuity test. Could a compromised wire that looks intact still cause these symptoms? No recent work has been done that might affect crankshaft or camshaft timing. What diagnostic steps would you recommend to confirm the crankshaft sensor before I replace it?

Okay, if the wiring looks good (but yeah, a break inside the insulation is a pain to spot), and no recent work, then it's pointing more and more to the sensor itself. I'm no expert with multimeters, so I'd hate to tell you to measure the resistance and be wrong. Honestly, with those symptoms, and given what you've already checked, I'd say it's time to get a professional opinion. Save yourself the headache and potential for making things worse. A proper scan tool can pinpoint the issue.

I took your advice and consulted a technician. The diagnostic confirmed the crankshaft sensor was the problem, and replacing it fixed everything. The total repair cost, parts and labor, was 340€.

Whoa, sounds rough! Camshaft and crankshaft outta sync? That's usually bad news. Could be the crank sensor for sure, those things can cause all sorts of weirdness. But before you go ripping things apart, have you checked the wiring to the sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose connection or a chewed wire. Also, any recent work done on the engine? Might be something simple overlooked.
