Thanks for the quick reply! That’s helpful. To be honest, I hadn't thought about the blower motor. How exactly would I go about checking that? Any tips before I start ripping things apart?

You're welcome. Assessing the blower motor involves confirming its operational status independently from the PTC heater circuit. One diagnostic step is to disconnect the PTC heater and directly power the blower motor. Should the motor exhibit compromised functionality or fail to activate, this substantiates the hypothesis of a defective blower motor. Based on your description and error message, a PTC heater issue is the more probable cause. Given your van's mileage and the symptoms, it's advisable to seek a professional diagnostic assessment at a qualified workshop.

Cheers for the advice! I bit the bullet and took it to the shop. Turns out it WAS the PTC heater, just like we thought. 350€ lighter in the wallet, but at least the van's running sweet again. Much appreciated!

The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a malfunctioning Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater. The poor cold start performance, elevated fuel consumption, and the presence of an error code all point to its failure. Have you verified the functionality of the blower motor alongside the heater itself? A faulty blower motor can sometimes mimic PTC heater issues, and diagnosing it thoroughly is crucial before proceeding.
