Thanks! I haven't properly measured the voltage during cranking. What kind of voltage drop are we talking about to indicate an issue? And where's the best place to check for a short circuit in these vans – any known weak spots?

Anything below 10V while cranking screams battery or short circuit. Honestly, chasing shorts can be a nightmare without proper tools and experience. Given the "Terminal 30" error, and your symptoms, a heavily discharged or even a defective battery is very likely. At your mileage and the fact that the battery is very loaded during vehicle start, I suggest you go to a workshop.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! Took it to a local garage; they confirmed it was the battery, as you suspected. Turns out it was heavily degraded and not holding charge properly. New battery fitted, all seems good now. Total damage: 290€.

Sounds like a nasty electrical fault. Have you checked the battery voltage? It should be around 12.6V when fully charged and at rest. What's the voltage doing when you try to crank the engine? A significant voltage drop could point to a short circuit or a seriously degraded battery.
