Peugeot Partner 2008 diesel: Smoke, stuttering and engine failure

Hey guys, I've recently started having problems with my 2008 diesel Peugeot Partner with 76540km on the clock. It smokes like a factory chimney when accelerating, the check engine headlight has come on and the engine stalls, weasel like idles, jerking when accelerating, poor fuel economy, weird stuttering when idling and worse, sometimes it just shuts off. I suspect the fault could be with the mass air flow sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences and how did your mechanic solve it? My last visit to the mechanic was stressful, so I'm hoping for some advice to make the next one as trouble-free as possible. Thanks in advance for your info and tips!

Summary of the thread

A 2008 diesel Peugeot Partner is experiencing issues such as excessive smoke during acceleration, engine stalling, jerking, poor fuel economy, and stuttering when idling. The check engine light is also on. The suspected cause is a faulty mass air flow sensor. Another user with similar symptoms found that the issue was due to damage in the wiring harness, which was resolved by replacing and re-routing cables. This solution restored the car's performance, suggesting it might be a viable fix for the current problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I have a 2011 diesel Peugeot 3008 and had exactly the same symptoms as you. In my case it was damage to the wiring harness. This problem can be really severe because it can lead to all these faults - jerking, stalling and so on. The mechanics had to replace and re-route some cables on my last visit to the garage. It's a bit of a complex job because they have to figure out exactly which cable is broken where. But after that, my car ran smoothly again. Hopefully that's the case for you too. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your helpful answer! Your experience sounds really similar to mine! So it was damage to the wiring harness in your case... That's crazy! Do you remember how much you ended up having to pay for the repair? And were there any further complications afterwards or has the car been running perfectly ever since? I'd really like to have a smooth workshop visit next time.

Hey, no problem, glad to help! In my case, it was around 95 euros to repair the wiring harness. It was really manageable and the guys in the workshop did a good job. Since the defect in the mass air flow sensor was fixed, my Peugeot has been running like a champ again. No more stuttering or any of that nonsense. I hope your next visit to the garage will be stress-free too!

Thanks again for your helpfulness and the info, buddy! That really doesn't sound as bad as I feared. 95 euros is really okay and if your Peugeot has been running smoothly since the repair, I have high hopes that mine will be too. So, I'll make an appointment with my garage and see how it goes. I'm a bit reassured now! I'll let you know how it goes. See you then!
