Pilot PCV Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Honda Pilot is experiencing a check engine light, reduced engine power, and smoke during acceleration, with a diagnostic scanner indicating a crankcase ventilation valve issue. The symptoms, including rough idle and oil seepage, suggest a likely problem with the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. A thorough inspection by a technician confirmed the PCV valve as the culprit, leading to a repair quote.

Thanks for the quick reply! The idle is a little rough, now that you mention it. And yeah, I think I saw some oil seepage when I was poking around the other day. Is this definitely the PCV valve, or could it be something else causing similar symptoms?

The observed symptoms, encompassing erratic idle behavior, discernible oil seepage, and the diagnostic trouble code suggesting a crankcase ventilation deficiency, collectively indicate a high probability of a defective positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. Although it remains within the realm of possibility that ancillary factors may contribute to the observed phenomena, the preponderance of evidence strongly implicates the aforementioned component. A thorough inspection by a qualified technician is advisable to ascertain the definitive etiology and to implement appropriate remedial measures.

Took the Pilot to the shop. You were spot on – it was the PCV valve! Quoted 360€ for the repair. Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction; appreciate the help!

I encountered a similar predicament with my previous vehicle, a 2012 Volvo S60 T5. The symptoms you describe align with a potential crankcase ventilation malfunction. Have you observed any anomalies in the engine's idle behavior, such as fluctuations or instability? Furthermore, is there any discernible evidence of oil leakage around the crankcase area?
