Pixo brake lights error

I'm having trouble with my 2010 Nissan Pixo, gasoline engine. The brake lights aren't working, and there's an error message in the infotainment system, plus an error stored in memory. Could it be the brake light switch?

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Nissan Micra. Same symptoms – brake lights out, error message. Have you checked if your brake pedal is returning fully? That was my problem.

Thanks! I haven't considered the brake pedal itself. What do you mean by 'returning fully'? How would that cause the brake light switch to fail and produce these error messages?

Basically, if the pedal isn't fully released, it can mess with the switch. Happened after my kid was 'helping' clean the car and pressed it a bunch. It might be a simple fix, but honestly, best to get it checked at a workshop if you're not sure. Could save you a headache.

Your insight was invaluable! I found a floor mat obstructing the brake pedal's full return. Removing the mat fixed it completely; the error message is gone, and the brake lights work now. No repair costs!
