Really helpful info, thanks. Had the same problem with my Polo last spring when the sunroof stopped working mid-drive. Your repair list matches what they did to fix mine. Just curious, do you remember what the total cost was for your sunroof troubleshooting and repair? Also wondering if youve had any issues with the automobile sunroof since getting it fixed?

The final cost for my Golf sunroof repair turned out much lower than initially expected. The mechanic found that a simple control module coding issue was causing the sunroof initialization error. No parts replacement was needed, just proper recalibration of the sunroof system. Total came to 75€ for the coding work. Since the sunroof troubleshooting and repair, the system has worked flawlessly. The sunroof operation is smooth, and I haven't seen any error messages return. The mechanic explained that sunroof calibration issues are pretty common in VW models, but once properly coded, they typically stay resolved. I was relieved it didnt require the full sunroof mechanism overhaul like yours did. A proper sunroof reset and recoding was all it took to get everything working properly again. Really glad I went to a shop that specialized in VW electrical systems, they knew exactly what to check first.

After getting all that helpful feedback, I wanted to share how my repair experience turned out. Took the Polo to a VW specialist who immediately recognized the sunroof initialization error. The sunroof mechanism needed a complete overhaul, including new motors and control module replacement. The repair cost came to 890€ total, quite steep but necessary since multiple components had failed. The sunroof calibration process alone took over an hour to complete after all the parts were installed. The shop did a great job testing the sunroof operation in all positions before returning the car. Its been 6 months since the repair and the sunroof system works perfectly now. No more error messages or stuck components. The sunblind moves smoothly and the entire mechanism feels more solid than before. While expensive, going to a proper VW specialist was worth it to get the job done right the first time.

Similar issue occurred on my 2012 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The sunroof control unit typically needs recalibration or replacement when showing initialization errors. The sunroof system can fail due to several factors, damaged motors, broken cables, or corrupted control module coding. In my case, the sunroof reset procedure did not resolve the issue. The diagnosis revealed a faulty control module that required replacement and coding. The repair involved: Complete removal of headliner, Testing of sunroof motors and mechanisms, Replacement of control module, Full system coding and calibration, Testing all sunroof positions and functions This was a significant repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. The vehicle sunroof mechanism is complex, involving multiple components that need precise synchronization. A proper repair requires expertise with VW electrical systems and sunroof calibration procedures. The symptoms you describe, frozen sunblind and unresponsive controls, match exactly what I experienced. This is not a DIY repair due to the programming requirements. Would recommend having a certified VW technician diagnose the car sunroof system, as improper repairs can lead to water leaks and further electrical issues.
