Porter water sensor malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Hyundai Porter diesel exhibited a check engine light and rough running, with an error code indicating a water sensor malfunction. The initial suspicion was a wiring issue rather than a sensor failure. It was advised to check the cable and plug connection for any visible corrosion or damage. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed a defective plug connection to the water sensor, repaired it, and resolved the issue.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check the cable and plug connection more thoroughly. Do you know if there's a specific way to test the sensor itself to rule that out completely?

Testing the sensor directly is tricky without the proper Hyundai-specific diagnostic tools. The error memory gives it away. Honestly, given the symptoms, it's almost certainly the connector or wiring harness. At this point, you’re probably best off having a workshop take a look to be safe.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local workshop. They confirmed it was a defective plug connection to the water sensor. They repaired the connection and cleared the error. Total cost was 95€. Runs great now.

Rough running plus a water sensor error points to electrical. Those sensors rarely fail outright. Check the cable and plug connection first. Hyundai's auto electronics can be finicky. Is there any visible corrosion or damage to the connector?
