Metal shavings in oil

Hey! That’s a sorry state to be in! Reading your troubles took me back to when I had similar, nasty surprises with my 2018 Seat Tarraco. Just like you guys, spotted metal shavings in the oil and had the oil pressure light popping up. You’re not alone, trust me. However, turned out for me it was indeed the engine oil pressure switch causing the ruckus. Thankfully, the damage wasn’t as serious as it was for with his Leon. But, it was enough for my mechanic to give me a stern lecture on the importance of regularly checking my oil levels. But hey, keep your chin up! Hopefully, it’s not as nightmarish as it seems. Out of curiosity and to keep our fingers crossed, do you recall the rough cost you shelled out for your repairs,? And, was there any other unexpected problem that popped up since you had it sorted? Cheers!
Heyya, Totally feel you on those repair cost jitters! When it happened with my Leon, I was barely slowing my increase in heartbeat. But luckily, things turned out pretty decent. Regarding your query, fixing the Incorrect engine oil in the engine ran me about 175€. A bit steep, but totally worth restoring my ride back to its smooth runs. Since seeing my mechanic and getting the engine oil pressure switch fixed, no other trouble has raised its ugly head. Touch wood! Like I said earlier, always confirm the engine oil spec before you top up next. That might save you from all this scare. Here's to hoping your Tarraco will be back to ruling the roads again soon! Cheers!
Thanks a ton, guys! Really appreciate your quick responses and perspectives. Seems like I am indeed looking at a possible engine concern, as you pointed out,. On the other hand, I'm quietly hoping that it turns out to be a less worrisome oil pressure switch issue, like in your case,. Fingers crossed! Relatively relieved to learn about the costs,. Slightly steep, but hearing how it sorted your trouble out, it might be worth it. So, I think I'm looking at a trip to the garage soon, but at least I feel prepared—kudos to you all! Yes, a lesson learned here about keeping a check on oil specification. No more skimping on that one for sure. Thankfully this problem's happening now and not during a scenic summer road trip. Here's to hoping my Tarraco will kiss the tarmac without a glitch soon. Thanks again and catch you around! Cheers!
Hey there, I totally get your gist! I had a quite similar problem with my 2016 Seat Leon not so long ago. Noticed my oil pressure light on, and to my surprise, found metal shavings in the oil just like you did. My hunch was also an issue with the engine oil pressure switch, but it turned out to be a bigger concern actually. Those shavings were a tell-tale sign of mechanical wear and tear in the engine, likely due to using the wrong engine oil. Distinctly remember my mechanic mentioning that incorrect oil reduces the lubrication, and that hastens wear of engine components. So, those mystery warning lights on your speedo? Probably your car's way of crying out about engine damage. Don't want to scare you, but it was a serious issue for me. You get your car to a reliable garage and have them take a thorough look. It might not be a quick fix, but they'll do what's necessary to sort it out. And learn from my scenario, always double-check the specification of engine oil before you fill up next time. Best of luck, and hope your Tarraco gets back purring like a kitten soon!
