Possible problems with the control of the secondary air valve in Opel Corsa 2009 - advice wanted

Hey, I need your help. My Opel Corsa from 2009 with a gasoline engine has been behaving strangely recently. The check engine light is on, fuel consumption has increased and there is a strong smell of exhaust fumes. I suspect there may be a problem with the control of the secondary air valve. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a tip on how your garage solved the problem? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Opel Astra, it's a bit older (built in 2007) but the symptoms sound very familiar. So, I don't have much experience with cars, but I know how to recognize problems and who to ask for help. I took my car to my garage, the guys there are really fit. They found out that the electric changeover valve was faulty. The repair cost me 140 euros, but it solved the problem. Of course, it could be that something else is broken in your Corsa, but it sounds very much as if the electric changeover valve is faulty. Did you change or add anything before you noticed these problems? Are there any other symptoms that are occurring? That may help pinpoint the problem even more. Hope this can help you a bit.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and your help. My Corsa already has 160715 km on the clock, and so far everything has been tip top. I haven't made any changes and no other symptoms have occurred. So the whole thing is really strange. Everything was fine at the last service. I will definitely have the electric changeover valve checked. Thanks for your tip, that would be really great if that was the solution. I'll let you know as soon as I know more!

Hey, no problem! Sure, then it really sounds like it could be similar problems to my Astra. Especially with such a high mileage, something can break. In any case, have the electric changeover valve checked, then you'll know more. Incidentally, I've never had similar problems with my Astra after replacing the electric changeover valve. And the reduced fuel consumption has also stabilized and the smell has disappeared. I can't wait to see what they find at your garage. Keep us up to date and good luck!

Hey, hello there! Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed and for the tip. It's good to know that you didn't have any more similar problems after replacing the electro-switching valve. It's exactly this information that gives me courage. I will now have the valve checked and hope that it solves the problem without costing much. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again and see you soon!
