Power loss in Seat Altea Diesel 2010: experiences with workshop visits

Hello everyone, unfortunately I currently have a problem with my 2010 Seat Altea Diesel, which has already run 95345 km. The check engine light is on, there is a loss of engine power and the DPF regeneration is failing, which has also been indicated in the fault memory. I therefore suspect that the exhaust back pressure sensor could be defective. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me what happened at the workshop? Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Seat Altea Diesel experienced power loss, a check engine light, and failed DPF regeneration, leading to suspicion of a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. The issue was confirmed by a mechanic, who replaced the sensor, resolving the problem. Similar experiences from others suggest that this sensor defect is not uncommon and can be fixed relatively easily, though costs may vary.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, thank you very much for your answers and experiences. That really helps me. I'm reassured to hear that the problem with the exhaust back pressure sensor is apparently not so rare. I actually went to my mechanic, who took the matter in hand straight away. The defect in the sensor was confirmed. Fortunately, he was able to replace the exhaust back pressure sensor quite quickly. The whole thing cost me around 250 euros, which was a pleasant surprise. Since the repair, my Seat Altea has been running like clockwork again. Thanks again for your advice! Best regards!

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my 2013 Seat Leon. The check engine light was flickering and my mechanic confirmed that the exhaust back pressure sensor was the key. It's a rather simple fix if you know what you're doing. It's nothing serious and should be fixable without much effort. Don't worry, everything will be fine!

Hi, thanks for your reply! Wow, that sounds like exactly the same problem I have with my Altea. Did anything else come up after the fix or have you had peace of mind since? And if you remember, how much did it cost you to fix it?

Hello, interesting topic. Unfortunately, I'm also very familiar with this. Since I've had my exhaust back pressure sensor repaired, I've had no more problems. The costs, though, I'll tell you.... As for the cost, the repair cost me €1325 because the DPF was heavily overcharged. Not exactly a bargain, but what can you do, right? It's been a while since my car was repaired, but the prices certainly haven't got any cheaper!

Hello everyone, wow, so some of you have also had the trouble with the exhaust back pressure sensor. It seems that the service life of these sensors is not infinite. The replacement cost me around 350 euros, including working time at the authorized workshop. So far everything is running smoothly, no more problems. However, I have to say that I find it quite annoying that you have to reckon with such a defect every few years.
