Presage high fuel consumption hard starting
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan Presage with 168,000 km is experiencing high fuel consumption and hard starting, particularly in cold weather. The initial suspicion is a defective throttle valve or accelerator pedal module. Suggestions include cleaning the throttle body and checking the throttle position sensor. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosis confirms the issue as a faulty accelerator pedal module, which is replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! Throttle body cleaning is a good shout, hadn't considered it as the obvious culprit! When you say 'control valve issue', are you thinking along the lines of the engine throttle position sensor? Or something else entirely? Is there a way I can check this?

Yeah, throttle position sensor was kinda what I was hinting at! But honestly, with those symptoms, and you suspecting the accelerator module... could be a deeper dive. I'm just a novice, but maybe it's best to get a workshop to check it out, before you spend money on the wrong parts! Could save you some money in the long run.

Appreciate the advice! I took your advice and had a workshop take a look, and you were right, it was the accelerator pedal module. Replacement and diagnostics came to 205€. Runs like a dream now! Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.

Woah, higher fuel consumption AND poor starting? Sounds rough! You've checked the basics, right? Like, have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Sometimes just a bit of gunk can mess things up. Is the engine idling smoothly, or is it all over the place? Could be a control valve issue too, ya know?
