Interesting! Where is the signal amplifier located, and how would I go about checking the antenna ground? I'm assuming it's somewhere near the antenna itself?

On my BMW, the amplifier was near the antenna base, under the headlining inside the car. You might have to peel back the headlining a bit to get to it. Look for any signs of corrosion or damage to the wiring. For the antenna ground, check where the antenna cable connects to the car body, look for rust or a loose connection there too. Honestly, messing with vehicle electronics without the proper tools can be tricky, and I ended up getting the dealership to fix it for me. It's probably worth taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the helpful suggestion! Ended up taking your advice and brought it into the local shop. After a bit of diagnostics, it turns out the antenna itself was defective. Apparently, water had gotten in and shorted it out. New antenna installed and boom - radio is working again! Total cost 255€ Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Wow, that sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 Series. The symptoms you describe match what I experienced. It drove me nuts because sometimes it would work perfectly, and then suddenly, just silence and an error message on the screen. I'm no expert but did you check the signal amplifier? I read somewhere that they are prone to corrosion. Or maybe the antenna ground?
