Thanks for the quick reply! An exhaust leak makes sense. Where should I be looking specifically? Is there a common spot where these things tend to fail?

While there isn't one specific spot, you should thoroughly inspect the entire exhaust system, particularly around the joints and welds. Listen for any hissing sounds when the engine is running, especially when it's cold. Consider that the sensor might also be the culprit due to temperature fluctuations. However, given the symptoms and the potential for exhaust leaks to cause these errors, I recommend consulting with a qualified technician. They can perform a diagnostic test and pinpoint the problem accurately.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it was a small leak in the exhaust system messing with the temperature sensor. They replaced the sensor and fixed the leak. Cost me 265€, but the car is running perfectly now!

I had a similar issue with my Toyota Previa, though it's an older model. Those symptoms – check engine light, reduced power, and drinking more fuel – can definitely point to a faulty temperature sensor. It's like your car's telling you it has a fever. Have you checked for any obvious exhaust leaks? A leak can throw off the sensor readings.
