Previa Rail Pressure Sensor Issue

My 2001 Toyota Previa diesel is throwing a check engine light and stalling at idle. Also, the engine power seems low. I suspect a faulty rail pressure sensor. Has anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Toyota Previa diesel was experiencing a check engine light, stalling at idle, and low engine power, suspected to be due to a faulty rail pressure sensor. These symptoms align with fuel pressure issues, and a defective sensor could indeed cause such problems. After replacing the rail pressure sensor, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Sounds like fuel pressure issues, alright. Reduced power and stalling definitely point that way. Have you checked for any obvious fuel leaks? When was the fuel filter last changed?

No visible leaks. I changed the fuel filter about 10000 km ago, should I change it again? Could a defective sensor cause these symptoms?

10000 km should be fine for the fuel filter. A defective rail pressure sensor definitely could cause those symptoms. Is it worth risking further damage? I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed the rail pressure sensor. Replaced it, and the Previa is running smoothly again. Total cost was around 240€.
