Primastar Gear Selection Display Fault
Summary of the thread
The gear selection display in a 2008 Nissan Primastar diesel is non-functional, leading to issues such as inability to engage gears, implausible automatic transmission behavior, gearbox slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. Error codes are present, suggesting a potential fault. The problem is consistent, with the display completely blank, indicating a likely defective control unit. A workshop diagnosis confirmed the defective control unit, recommending its replacement.

The display is completely blank. The issue is constant, occurring every time I start the vehicle. Do you suspect a defective control unit as well?

Given the consistency of the problem and the blank display, it does sound like a defective control unit, as was the case with my van. I would recommend a visit to a workshop for diagnosis.

Thank you for the insight. I have arranged an appointment with a workshop. The diagnosis indicates a defective control unit requiring replacement, with an estimated cost of 1000€.

I had a similar issue with my Nissan Primastar. Is the digital display showing any signs of life at all, or is it completely blank? Does the problem occur intermittently or constantly?
