Primastar power steering fault
Summary of the thread
The 2012 Nissan Primastar experienced power steering issues, including a vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling, with a fault logged in the error memory. The problem was suspected to be a faulty connection to the steering pump. A visual inspection for corrosion or damage was recommended, and ultimately, a workshop confirmed and resolved the issue by fixing the connection, restoring proper steering function.

Noise from the pump? I haven't noticed anything specific. Where exactly should I be looking for the cable and plug? Any easy way to test it?

The cable and plug are located on the steering pump itself, usually near the front of the engine. Visual inspection is the key, look for corrosion or damage. Unfortunately, without proper diagnostic tools, pinpointing the exact issue will be difficult. I'd advise taking it to a workshop for a diagnostic check.

Thanks. You were spot on. Turns out it was a dodgy connection to the pump, like you said. Workshop charged me 95€ to sort it. Sorted now!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 3 Series. Check the cable and plug connections to the steering pump. A defective connection can cause all sorts of issues with the power steering system. Is there any noise coming from the pump?
