Primera Engine Start Gearbox Issues

I have a 2006 Nissan Primera with a diesel engine. Recently, the engine won't start, the check engine light is on, and the gearbox feels like it's slipping. There's also an error stored. Could this be a defective parking position in the automatic transmission?

That sounds familiar. I have a Primera myself, not sure of the exact year, but I had similar symptoms. The engine wouldn't start sometimes, and the shifts felt really rough. Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

I have not checked the transmission fluid level. Could low fluid cause all of these symptoms, including the check engine light and starting issue?

It might. Low fluid can definitely cause shifting problems. However, with the check engine light and starting issue, it sounds like a bigger problem. In my case, the issue was indeed the control unit. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. They can probably diagnose the fault codes.

Thank you for the advice. I will take it to a workshop for diagnostics. The fault codes indicate a defective control unit, which aligns with your experience. The estimated repair cost is around 1000€. Appreciate your help.
