Prisma NOx Error and Exhaust Leak

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2017 Chevrolet Prisma with a gasoline engine. It's got 109880 km on it, and the check engine light keeps popping up. A diagnostics check shows a NOx storage catalyst aging error, and I'm getting a distinct exhaust leak smell. Thinking it might be related, maybe a leak messing with the NOx readings? Anyone dealt with this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Chevrolet Prisma with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light due to a NOx storage catalyst aging error and a noticeable exhaust leak smell. The problem is likely caused by an exhaust leak affecting NOx readings. The suggested solution is to have a certified automotive technician inspect the exhaust system for leaks, which in this case led to the discovery and replacement of a cracked exhaust pipe near the catalytic converter, resolving the issue.

I understand you are experiencing difficulties with your Chevrolet Prisma. I own a Prisma as well, albeit a slightly older model. I also had a similar situation where the check engine light illuminated in conjunction with an error code related to nitrogen oxides. The error suggested an issue with NOx emissions. The potential cause that I investigated was a leak in the exhaust system.

Interesting! So, what exactly did you do to troubleshoot the exhaust leak, and how did you confirm it was the culprit behind the NOx error? Was it obvious, or did you need some special equipment to find it?

I appreciate your inquiry. I enlisted the assistance of a certified automotive technician to diagnose the issue and to verify the integrity of the exhaust system. I would strongly recommend that you take your vehicle to a reputable automotive service facility to have them conduct a comprehensive inspection of the exhaust system, with particular attention to potential leakage points. Attempting to fix such an issue without proper expertise and tools could lead to complications.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and they found a small crack in the exhaust pipe near the catalytic converter. They replaced the section, and after clearing the error codes, the check engine light is gone and the exhaust smell is gone too. Cost me about 265€, but worth it to get rid of the headache!
