Prius engine running lean
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota Prius hybrid is experiencing issues with running lean, leading to reduced engine power, a check engine light, rough running, and jerking during acceleration. Possible causes include problems with the air-fuel ratio, oxygen sensor, mass air flow sensor, or intake manifold leaks. The issue was resolved by identifying and replacing defective fuel injectors, as advised by a professional workshop.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked any of those specifically. I don't have the tools to check the air-fuel ratio or the oxygen sensor myself. Is there any way to check the intake manifold for leaks without special equipment? How did you resolve your similar issue?

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to diagnose it myself. I took it to a trusted workshop, and they found the injection valve/injector was defective, causing the lean running. It’s probably best to get yours checked by a professional too.

Okay, I appreciate the advice! I'll take it to the shop ASAP. They confirmed it was indeed the fuel injectors, and the repair cost me 515€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I had something similar happen with my Prius. Is it throwing any codes related to the air-fuel ratio, or maybe the oxygen sensor? It could also be related to the mass air flow sensor. Have you checked the intake manifold for any leaks?
