Prius oil pressure warning and engine noise

I've got a 2007 Toyota Prius, hybrid engine, with about 146091 km on it. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and I'm hearing some pretty bad mechanical noises coming from the engine. I checked the oil level, and it's fine. Could a clogged oil filter cause this, or is it more likely something serious?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Toyota Prius with 146,091 km is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and engine noise, despite the oil level being adequate. The issue could be due to a clogged oil filter or a more serious problem. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the oil pump is faulty, necessitating repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds rough. Had a similar thing happen with my old Renault Megane. Same oil pressure light and engine noise. Have you checked the oil viscosity? If it feels thin and watery, that could be a clue.

Thanks for the quick reply! How would I check the oil viscosity effectively? Is it like, thicker than honey, thinner than water kinda thing? What was the issue on your Megane?

Yeah, something like that! If it's really thin, it's not lubricating properly. On the Megane, the oil pump was shot. Best get it checked by someone who knows their way around an engine before you cause more damage.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it's the oil pump. Repair will be 755€.
