Prius Oil Pressure Warning Light

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2006 Toyota Prius, it's the hybrid model. The car only has about 39k km on it. I keep getting an error message on the speedometer, and the oil pressure warning light is coming on. I've checked the oil level manually, and it seems fine. I also scanned the car for error codes, and it's showing a faulty oil level sensor signal. Any ideas what could be causing this before I take it in?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Toyota Prius with 39k km is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and error message, despite the oil level appearing normal. The issue is likely due to a faulty oil level sensor or its wiring, as indicated by an error code. Checking the wiring harness and connector for damage or corrosion is suggested, but the problem is ultimately resolved by addressing a defective connection on the sensor at a workshop.

Sounds like a classic oil level sensor issue. Given the symptoms – error message, warning light, and the specific error code you pulled – it pretty much points to that sensor or its wiring. Have you had a look at the wiring harness and connector going to the sensor? Sometimes those connectors can get corroded or damaged, leading to intermittent signals. Also, is the oil level fluctuating wildly on the gauge, or is it consistently wrong?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the wiring harness yet, but that's a good idea. Is it easy to access? Also, the oil level on the gauge is just consistently wrong, always showing low even though the dipstick says otherwise.

Okay, consistently wrong reading plus the error code strengthens the sensor/wiring theory. The oil level sensor wiring is usually pretty accessible, located near the oil pan. It's definitely worth a look for obvious damage or loose connections. But honestly, with those symptoms and the age of the car, it's probably the sensor itself failing. Considering the potential engine damage from incorrect oil level readings, I would strongly suggest getting it checked out by a qualified mechanic ASAP.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. They found a defective connection on the sensor. 95€ later and everything is working as it should!
