Prius Temperature Sensor Issues

My 2006 Toyota Prius hybrid (52281 km) has an outside temperature sensor error. The AC won't engage, windshield washer nozzles stay frozen, and side mirror heaters don't work. I suspect a faulty cable or plug. Has anyone seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Toyota Prius hybrid is experiencing an outside temperature sensor error, leading to issues with the AC, windshield washer nozzles, and side mirror heaters. The suspected cause is a faulty cable or plug. A similar issue was resolved by checking the wiring harness near the sensor, as a damaged wire or corroded connector could be the problem. Professional diagnosis is recommended to accurately identify and fix the issue, which in this case was confirmed to be a defective cable to the temperature sensor.

I had a similar issue with my Prius. The symptoms you describe are very similar. In my case, the vehicle temperature gauge was also affected. Have you checked the wiring harness near the sensor? A damaged wire or corroded connector could indeed be the culprit. Also, have you tried running any sensor diagnostics to see if the sensor is providing any readings at all?

Thanks for the insight. I haven't done in-depth sensor diagnostics, just a visual inspection of the wiring. Can you elaborate on the specific tests you ran? I want to understand how to check the sensor's output and whether any specific values would indicate a malfunction before I consider a vehicle temperature sensor replacement.

Given the complexity of the hybrid system and the potential for further issues, I would suggest a visit to a qualified workshop. While DIY diagnostics are possible, incorrect handling could exacerbate the problem. A professional diagnosis will pinpoint the exact cause, and they can accurately determine if it's the sensor itself or the wiring harness causing the fault.

I appreciate your advice. It seems the best course of action is to get it checked professionally. The repair ended up costing 95€, and you were correct, the problem was a defective cable to the temperature sensor.
