Problem with air temperature sensor of the BMW X3 successfully solved
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2012 BMW X3 with a diesel engine was experiencing issues such as the Check Engine light being on, decreased engine performance, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause was a faulty air temperature sensor, which measures intake air temperature and sends data to the engine control unit. After replacing the sensor, the vehicle's performance improved significantly, resolving the issues without incurring high repair costs.

Hi, Luckily it doesn't seem to be a big problem, thanks for the reassurance! Can you remember how much you paid to change the air temperature sensor? And did anything else happen after that? Thanks and best regards!

Hello everyone, First of all, thank you very much for your advice and support. You really were right - the problem was indeed the air temperature sensor. I took my BMW X3 to my friend this morning and they replaced the sensor. He explained everything to me. I'm really glad that I didn't have to pay another high bill and particularly relieved that everything went so smoothly. The cost of the replacement was around 150 euros, which was absolutely fine compared to my last experience at the garage. Since the repair, my BMW X3 is running very well again. Thanks again for your help! Best regards

Moin, as far as the costs are concerned, I paid around 170 euros if I remember correctly. But hey, since then my little runabout has been running smoothly again! I hope this helps you! Best regards!

Hi, I had similar symptoms with my 2015 BMW X5. My experience was that it was nothing dramatic. At the workshop, they simply replaced the air temperature sensor. That was it. It really sounds like your air temperature sensor is the problem. Not a big deal, really. Should be pretty easy to fix. Don't stress yourself out! Best regards.
