Problem with automatic tailgate opening and warning light on Toyota 4Runner 2005: Possible defective Hall sensor?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Tailgate does not open automatically

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2005 Toyota 4Runner with gasoline engine. The tailgate no longer opens automatically and a warning light appears on my speedometer. Do you think this could be due to a defective Hall sensor on the tailgate? How have other garages solved such problems and what were your experiences? I'm grateful for any tips!

Hi, so I had a similar problem with my 2003 Toyota Highlander. I'm not a car mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. So, my car also gave me a warning light and the problem was actually with the ECU, not the hall sensor. I took it to my garage and the guys figured it out and fixed it. Unfortunately it was quite expensive, cost me 1000 euros, but since then everything has been working perfectly again. Maybe it could be similar with your 4Runner? Which warning light comes on exactly? I hope I was able to help you a little. Regards

Moin, the light that comes on is the orange triangle, so something to do with the drive. Maybe it really is the control unit, like yours. With 151698 km on the speedometer, perhaps my 4Runner has simply reached the end of the control unit's service life. Nothing unusual was found at the last service, but that was six months ago. Well, I guess I'll have to take my beloved to the garage again. Thanks for the tip! Regards

Hi, I also had the orange triangle light up. So it's quite possible that it really is the control unit. With your mileage, that could well be the case. My Highlander had about 150000 km on the clock when the control unit had to be replaced. In any case, take it to the garage and have it checked, so that you don't suddenly break down while driving. That wouldn't be so great. But don't worry too much, a control unit like this can be replaced. Hopefully I've been able to help you a little! All the best for your 4Runner and let me know what it was in the end! LG

Hi, yes, your tip was very helpful. I think it's better to be safe and have the ECU checked before anything worse happens. Your experience has given me a clear picture of what may be the problem and how I should proceed. I will be taking my 4Runner to the garage next week, whatever the cost. Thanks again for your help and I'll let you know as soon as I know more! Bye!
