Problem with the headlight cleaning system on the Renault Clio Hybrid 2023: Possible signal error in the wiper water pump

Headlight cleaning system without function

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Renault Clio Hybrid (year of manufacture 2023). The headlight cleaning system no longer works and I have a hunch that it could be due to the signal error of the rear window wiper pump. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me tips on troubleshooting? I am particularly interested in how your garage solved the problem and what they said about it. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Renault Captur (year of manufacture 2021). I would describe myself as a hobby mechanic with some experience. So, I went to my garage and they found that the cable connection to the pump and the relay were faulty. They replaced both and the whole thing cost me €165. Just to be on the safe side: Have you checked to see if it could be the same cause in yours? Maybe you could also tell us a bit more about your problem so that I or the others here can help more precisely. Is it definitely the headlight cleaning system or maybe something else?

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! I've had another look and it looks like the cable connection and the relay are OK. But of course I'm no expert. Maybe I should actually take it to the workshop. What I'm wondering, however, is whether the fault could be from the last service. I was there at 134317 km and maybe they missed something. Incidentally, I haven't done anything else to the car since then, so I couldn't have damaged anything myself. At least not that I know of! The problem only occurs with the headlight cleaning system, as far as I can tell. Everything else works perfectly.

It's good that you've already checked the cables and the relay. With things like this, the devil may really be in the detail. One possibility could be that something really went wrong during the last service and maybe the pump itself or the hose that feeds the fluid to the headlights is damaged. But of course that's just a theory. If you're not really sure, then it's definitely a good idea to go to the garage. After all, they have the right equipment and the experience to locate the fault more precisely. However, I would recommend that you document everything beforehand and also express the suspicion that the fault may have been caused by the last service. This will put you on the safe side in case something goes wrong. Also, just to be on the safe side: You've checked that there's enough wiper fluid in there, haven't you? Sometimes you're just unlucky and the wiper fluid runs out and the pump naturally can't work. Do you happen to know whether you have a separate tank for the headlight washer system or whether it is shared with the wiper water pump for the windshield wipers? On my old Clio it was separate. Just a thought. I hope this advice helps you.

Yes, you're right, I should definitely visit the workshop. The documenting is also a great tip, thanks for that! By the way, yes, there's enough wiper fluid in there and I actually have two separate tanks. So that can't be the problem. Your tips were very helpful and answered some of my questions, thanks again! I'll go to the garage and report what they've found. Until then, take care!
