Problem with the oil light and metal shavings in the oil on a 2017 Opel Adam
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Opel Adam is experiencing an oil light warning and metal shavings in the oil, possibly indicating a problem with the oil level sensor. The issue could be due to a defective cable connection or a previous oil leak causing engine oil loss. The suggested solution is to take the car to a garage for accurate diagnosis, potential sensor replacement, and oil change if contaminated.

Hello, thank you very much for the quick reply. Well, my Adam has run 58760 km so far and the last time I brought it in for servicing was when it had around 50000 km. I haven't read any fault codes yet and apart from the loud noise and the warning lights, I haven't noticed anything else. I think I'll have to take it to the garage. Your tip about the oil level sensor could definitely be helpful, thanks!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! With the mileage, there shouldn't really be any serious problems yet, but you never know. The loud noise could be caused by the metal shavings in the oil causing friction. Your car may have previously had a leak that caused a loss of engine oil and that is causing these symptoms. I agree, the best thing to do really is to take the car to a garage. They can then accurately diagnose the fault and replace the oil level sensor if necessary. They may also need to change the oil if it is contaminated with metal shavings. On my Opel Corsa, this cost around 220 euros together with the sensor repair. Good luck!

Hey, that's really helpful information! Now I feel a bit better prepared for the workshop visit. I hadn't even thought about the possibility of a leak, but that would actually explain a lot. I'll try to make an appointment as soon as possible and hope that the cost will be about the same as yours. But the main thing is that the car runs perfectly again afterwards. Many thanks for your help and advice!

Hello, I once had a similar problem with my Opel Corsa, built in 2015. I have little knowledge of cars, so I took it straight to the garage. The mechanic there found that the cable connection of the oil level sensor was defective. The repair cost 165.0 euros. That sounds like it could be your problem. To help you further, it would be great if you could give me more details about your car. Have you had any fault codes read or noticed any other symptoms?
