Reset problem after servicing on BMW x5 Diesel
(Translated from French)
Summary of the thread
A 2019 BMW x5 owner is experiencing issues with resetting the maintenance indicator after servicing, specifically after changing the front brake pads. Despite using the Carly system, the warning light and message remain active. Additionally, the brakes feel spongy and insufficient. Suggested solutions include manually resetting the indicator through the service menu and checking for air in the brake lines, with a recommendation to consult a mechanic if problems persist.

For the maintenance indicator, try this: turn on the ignition without starting the engine, press and hold the odometer reset button until the service menu appears, then use the button to scroll to the brake pad reset option and hold it to reset. For the spongy brakes, check for air in the brake lines and ensure they are properly bled. If the issue persists, it could be a sign of a more serious problem, and I recommend having a mechanic inspect it for safety reasons. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
I don’t know about the spongy feeling. But for resetting the brakes after a service I had the same issue, only for me it was the rear brakes Carly wouldn’t do it, the cars built in reset wouldn’t do it, an autel computer wouldn’t do it. Every method came back with a message stating unable to reset. The solution for me was that I had to turn the parking brake off (or leave it off) and then reset.
