Problems starting the 2018 Citroen DS5 petrol engine - Possible fault in the engine control unit

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my 2018 Citroen DS5 gasoline engine. It starts very hard, the battery seems weak when starting and the lights are dim or flickering. I think there might be a fault in the engine management system but not sure. Have any of you experienced this before and can tell me how your garage fixed the problem? Would be really grateful for your experience and tips.

Hey buddy, I had similar issues with my 2016 Peugeot 308. I'm not a car mechanic, but I do know a bit about cars. In my case, it was defective or worn glow plugs that caused the trouble. I had to pay 560 euros at the garage to get the thing running again. Have you ever checked your glow plugs? Maybe the solution is just as simple. Could you share some more information about your car with us? Maybe then we can help you even better.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! I haven't checked the glow plugs yet, but will definitely consider it. My little Citroen has done a good job so far, but I have a total of 20512 kilometers on it. There were no abnormalities at the last service. Do you have any tips on how and where I can best check the glow plugs? Unfortunately, I'm not very handy.

Hey, no problem, we're all here to help each other. So, to check the glow plugs, you'll need a few tools and maybe a buddy to give you a hand. But it's important that you know that replacing glow plugs is not always easy, especially if they are stuck or rusty. And that could be the case with your Citroen in particular, which already has a few kilometers on the clock. If it gets too difficult, I would recommend taking the car to a garage. It's better to spend a bit of money on it than take the risk of breaking something. And if you do dare, here you can see where the glow plugs should be: Turn off the car and open the hood. The glow plugs are located on the cylinder head. Depending on how your engine is installed, they may be difficult to access. You should see four glow plugs, one for each cylinder. But remember, it could just be the battery running out of juice. I would check that too. Good luck with that and let us know how it goes.

Hey, thanks for the detailed reply and the help! I think I'll try to find and check the glow plugs. If it gets too difficult, I'll take my car to a garage. I will also keep in mind the possibility that it could be the battery. I hope the Citroen runs smoothly again soon. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news. Thanks again!
