Hey, thanks for your reply! Regarding the mileage, my Ampera now has about 172003 km on the odometer. Regarding the last maintenance, unfortunately I haven't done much except for regular oil changes. Do you think this could have something to do with the control unit? It would be really stupid if that were the case, as it's not exactly cheap to replace! I'm curious what you think.

Hi, thanks for your additions! Given the high mileage, the control unit could actually be the culprit, but it's difficult to say without a precise diagnosis. I would definitely recommend having it checked by a professional garage. On the other hand, the flickering lights and the weak battery could also indicate a defective alternator or a battery problem. I once had a similar case with my Insignia, where the battery was simply old and had to be replaced. It cost me about 120 euros at the time. So sometimes it's not the most expensive thing that's broken. Either way, I wouldn't wait too long and have it checked at a garage soon. I hope this helps and good luck with the problem!

Greetings! Many thanks for your useful advice. I had already thought about checking the battery first. A faulty alternator could of course also be the case. Your feedback has helped me to get a better picture of the situation. I will take the car to the garage tomorrow to get an accurate diagnosis. Keep your fingers crossed! It's a bit daft, it'll probably cost me a bit, but I hope it stays within reason. Thanks again for your help!

Astra h 3dr power steering works on and off and sometimes just tur s the wheel all the way too lock it's self if you let it
This sounds like a serious safety issue. It could be due to a faulty power steering pump, a problem with the power steering rack, or an issue with the power steering fluid. I strongly recommend you to take your car to a professional mechanic as soon as possible to avoid any potential accidents. Please keep us updated on the progress. Do you have any other questions or concerns?

It sounds like you're on the right track. Replacing the rack could indeed solve the issue if it's faulty. However, before you do, you might want to check the power steering fluid level and condition, as well as the power steering pump, just to rule out these possibilities. Let us know how it goes after the rack replacement.
Hi, I have some experience with cars and had a similar problem with my 2010 Opel Insignia. It turned out that the control unit was defective and sending wrong signals to the BUS system. I went to my garage to get it fixed and it cost me 1000.0 euros. However, with car problems, the causes can of course vary. Could you share a little more about your vehicle? For example, what is the mileage and have you done any maintenance recently? That might help me help you better. Hope this helps a little!
