Problems with ABS/DSC and steering assistance in BMW 1 Series (2014) - advice and solutions wanted

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my BMW 1 series, gasoline, year 2014. My ABS/DSC doesn't work anymore, the steering assistance is gone and the steering wheel vibrates and shakes. I somehow suspect that it could be some kind of signal error in the electric power steering. Has anyone ever had a similar problem and can provide troubleshooting tips? Would like to know how other garages have solved the problem and what their experiences are. Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A BMW 1 Series from 2014 is experiencing issues with the ABS/DSC system, loss of steering assistance, and a vibrating steering wheel. The suspected cause is a signal error in the electric power steering. Suggested solutions include checking the electric power steering system, tuning the steering, inspecting fuses and the electrical system, and reading error codes from the on-board computer. These steps aim to identify and resolve the underlying issue effectively.

Hey, okay, your problem sounds very similar to one I had with my 2012 BMW 116i, which is kind of the older brother of your 1 Series. I'm not exactly a car specialist, but I know how to solve problems! So, I took my BMW to my local garage because I noticed that the steering assistance was gone and the steering wheel was shaking when driving, just like yours. The guys at the garage then found that the steering was not tuned, which was the cause of the problem. After they tuned it for €75.00, everything was fine again. I would therefore recommend that you have the condition of your electric power steering checked in a workshop if you have not already done so. I imagine it's the same with your car. Could you give me some more information about your car? Exactly which model and which engine do you have? With more information I might be able to help you even better!

Hey, thanks for your reply! It's actually a 1 Series from 2014 with a gasoline engine. Unfortunately, I can't give you an exact model as I don't have the papers to hand at the moment. But the electric power steering makes sense, so I'll have that checked out. With the mileage of 107815 km, it could well be that something needs to be done. Everything was fine at the last service, but that was some time ago. Thanks again for the tip, I'll let you know what comes out of it!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! Your 1 Series with over 107k kilometers has certainly seen a lot. With that kind of mileage, there can be signs of wear on various components, and the electric power steering and ABS system are no exception. However, the teach-in is only one possibility, it could well be something else. However, as you have a similar problem with the steering assistance as I did back then, learning the steering could be a good first port of call. As I said, the costs for this were also quite manageable for me. However, a check of the fuses and the general electrical system can't do any harm. The same applies to checking and possibly replacing wearing parts in the steering and chassis system that could be responsible for the vibrations. However, the electric servo pump itself may also be out of order. A look at the error code stored in the on-board computer memory can often help. I hope this helps you. Let us know what you end up with!

Hey, thanks! I had also thought about wearing parts, will definitely have that checked. And checking the fuses and the electrical system also sounds sensible. To be honest, I have no idea how to read fault codes, but the garage can do that. The €75.00 for learning the steering doesn't sound too bad either, as long as it solves the problem. Thanks again for your advice, it's really great that forums like this one exist! I'll get back to you when I know more. See you then!
