Problems with ABS/DSC system and airbag warning light in the 2018 Opel GrandlandX: Possible defect in the steering angle sensor?

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2018 Opel GrandlandX petrol engine, I have noticed that the ABS/DSC system is not working properly, the airbag warning light comes on and the car has a stored fault. I have a hunch that it may be to do with the steering angle sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar problems or know anything about it? How did you get it sorted out in the workshop and what were your experiences? I would be grateful for any tips!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Opel GrandlandX is experiencing issues with the ABS/DSC system and an airbag warning light, potentially linked to a defect in the steering angle sensor. A similar problem in another Opel model was resolved by addressing a faulty cable connection to the sensor. Suggested solutions include checking both the steering angle sensor and the cable connection to identify the root cause.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I have a bit of experience with cars and had a similar problem with my Opel Astra 2016, different model but close enough. At my garage it turned out that the cable connection to the sensor was faulty. I paid about 155.0 euros to have it repaired. Could you please give me more information, e.g. if there were any other symptoms or when the problem first occurred? That way I might be able to help you better. I hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your reply! Interesting that it could also be a cable connection problem. There were no other symptoms, everything was normal until the day the warning lights started coming on. It happened for the first time about a week ago, right after my last service at 64,304 km. Has anyone had similar experiences? I would appreciate more input!

Hi, exactly the same thing happened to my GrandlandX immediately after a service. At first I thought it might be a coincidence, but now I'm not so sure. The mechanic said that the steering angle sensor might need replacing, which fits with your first guess. The cost was also quite similar to yours, around 150 euros. The problem could also come from the cable connection, like on my old Astra. So, it would be helpful if the mechanics would check both possibilities. Because with cars, it's often the case that you don't realize if that's it until after the repair. But don't worry, you're definitely on the right track with your assumption. Let me know when you find out more!

Hey, thanks for the helpful tips! It's good to hear that my suspicion isn't so far-fetched and your experience confirms that. I will definitely make sure the mechanics check both: the steering angle sensor and the cable connection. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. Thanks again for the support!
