Problems with air conditioning and heating in Mercedes Sprinter 2008 - suspected defective ambient temperature sensor

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Mercedes Sprinter (2008, diesel). The air conditioning system only blows out warm air and the heating/cooling is inadequate. I have a suspicion that it might be the ambient temperature sensor. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me some troubleshooting tips? How did you get this solved in the workshop? I would be grateful for any experiences and tips!

Hey, I've had similar experiences with my Mercedes Vito (2006, diesel). I'm not exactly a car mechanic, have a bit of experience but definitely not a professional. The thing was that there was a cable or connector problem with my temperature sensor and it was just like your case. My solution? I went to my trusted garage and they fixed it for me. It cost 95 euros because this cable had to be replaced. Maybe you should provide the exact model name and other relevant information so we can give you more specific advice. Have you thought about reading out the error code? Hope that helps you!

Hi, thanks for the tip, Person2! I just got my Sprinter back from customer service with 92874 km and unfortunately can't go back now. I'll take a closer look at the cable and possibly replace it myself. Otherwise, if anyone else has any ideas, I would be grateful for any help. And person1, have you tried checking the fuse? Maybe it's blown with all the heat. In my case it was once a defective air conditioning compressor, not exactly the cheapest part either... But maybe a new cable sensor will do the trick. Keep your fingers crossed!

I actually had a similar problem with my Vito once. In my case, it was ultimately a defective coolant valve that kept getting stuck. You could perhaps check that too, Person1. It cost me just under 160 euros to have it replaced. But of course, as the others have said here, it could also be a problem with the cable or the sensor itself. Maybe you're lucky and it's just the cable, that would definitely be cheaper. In any case, have a look at the fuse and the cooling system first and read the fault code if you can. The tons of warm air could indicate a problem with the coolant or the coolant valve. It would be annoying if this was the only problem and you didn't have optimum performance from your air conditioning system because of something as minor as this... Hopefully we've been able to help you a little and you'll find the solution to your problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

Thank you very much, guys! I really appreciate your advice and tips. Good idea to check the fuse and coolant system, I hadn't considered that. And yes, Person2, reading the fault code is certainly a helpful thing to do too. I'll give it all a try and hope that I can find the fault and solve it without having to take it to the garage. It's also important to me to always keep my car in good condition so that it doesn't suddenly let me down. I didn't think so many things could be responsible, but it's good to know that there are others who have had similar problems and solved them. Really cool that we can share and help each other here. Thanks again for your help and advice! I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more about it. Until then, keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!
