Problems with Audi A8: Engine indicator light, loss of power and loud noises - experience and tips wanted
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
An Audi A8 owner is experiencing issues with the check engine light, reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and loud hissing noises. The suspected cause is a faulty swirl flap control on the intake manifold. A similar problem was resolved in another vehicle by repairing defective flaps in the gearshift intake manifold. It is suggested to check for fault codes using an OBD-II scanner to better diagnose the issue before proceeding with repairs.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! It's true, that sounds pretty similar to what I'm currently experiencing, although I don't have an exact fault code yet. My last inspection and mileage was 236,351 km. Will probably have to make it to the garage too - hopefully it won't cost me as much as it did you. I'll keep you posted and let you know what the guys at the garage find. Thanks again for the help, really cool of you. All the best!

Hey, you're welcome! It's really annoying when problems like this occur, but I'm glad I could help. On my car, it was actually the swirl flaps that were causing problems, so you might be right. The cost of the repair can vary though, depending on what the garage charges in terms of labor and parts. Hopefully it will cost a bit less in your case. If you have any more information or need help, just write. I'm not a professional, but I'm happy to share my experiences. And keep us up to date with the outcome of the workshop visit. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious. All the best and safe driving!

What i need to do
Start by checking for any fault codes using an OBD-II scanner, as this can provide specific information about the issue. If you don't have a scanner, many auto parts stores offer this service for free. Once you have the fault codes, it will be easier to pinpoint the problem. Let me know what you find, and we can go from there.

Hi, this reminds me of a similar problem I once had with my Audi A6 (diesel engine, year 2016). I would describe myself as someone with little car knowledge, but I'm still learning a lot. I had to take my car to the garage because it was showing very similar symptoms to yours: less power and rough running, jerking on acceleration and hissing noises. It turned out that the flaps in the gearshift intake manifold were defective. The repair service cost me 940 euros, and after the repair it ran perfectly again. But to be more certain, could you give me more details about your engine and any fault codes? That could help me to advise you better. I hope this helps you. All the best with the repair!
