Problems with camshaft phasing on the 2019 Karoq Skoda

Jerking on acceleration

Metal shavings in oil

Loss of engine power

Weird engine noise

Unsteady engine

Valve adjustment noise

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Hi everyone, I have a strange problem with my 2019 Karoq Skoda with a gasoline engine. The car just doesn't behave as it should and has the check engine light on. Also, the engine somehow has no power, the engine is running very smoothly, it jerks when accelerating and I hear something rattling in the engine. I suspect that a fault with the camshaft adjustment could be the reason. I would be very pleased if anyone has had similar experiences and could give me some tips. How have you had such problems rectified in the workshop and what were your experiences? I look forward to your answers. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Superb Skoda. When I took it to my garage, it turned out that the timing chain was elongated. The repair cost me around 1400 euros and since then everything has been working perfectly again. But about your problem: have you checked whether your Karoq is still under warranty? Has the oil been changed regularly? Have the valves already been adjusted? These details could be helpful to help you more accurately. Hope this is helpful! Regards,

Hi, thanks for the quick reply and the useful advice! Unfortunately, my Karoq is no longer under warranty. I always make sure the oil is changed regularly and as far as I know, the valves have not been adjusted yet. Is it an expensive process to adjust the valves? Your experience with the timing chain gives me something to think about. I'll take it up with my garage and hopefully they can sort it out quickly. Many thanks again! Regards,

Hi guys, in my experience it is quite a time-consuming and therefore costly job to adjust the valves. On my Renault, it took about a whole day and came to around 500 euros for the adjustment without additional repairs. With your problem, the camshaft adjustment could actually be faulty. I once had a similar case with my old VW Golf. As soon as the engine was warm, it started to jerk and lost power. Then there were the unpleasant noises. The garage then discovered that the camshaft adjustment was broken. That was too much of a good thing at the time and I parted with my Golf. Good luck and I hope you get the problem under control quickly! Best regards!

Hey guys, your input has really helped me! So I've gone to the mechanic and I'm still just worrying. The mechanic found chips in the oil, which is probably a very serious problem. This shouldn't happen, especially with such new cars. Now I'm really worried. Well, let's hope for the best. Thank you in any case for your help.
