Problems with Citroen C6 from 2006: Engine indicator light, loss of power and high fuel consumption
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2006 Citroen C6 is experiencing several issues including an illuminated engine indicator light, loss of power, uneven running, jerking during acceleration, high fuel consumption, valve adjustment noises, strange engine sounds, and metal shavings in the oil. The owner suspects a faulty camshaft adjustment. A similar issue in a 2004 Citroen C5 was resolved by replacing worn rubber sealing rings in the camshaft timing. Additional symptoms in the C6, such as a clattering engine and a potentially faulty intake valve, were noted. The owner was advised to also check the particulate filter, especially since the car is a diesel model. The car has been taken to a garage for diagnosis and repair.

Hey, thanks for your feedback. Mine has the 2.2 HDi V6 engine, so it's a diesel. Unfortunately there are other symptoms too, such as a clattering engine and it seems like the intake valve is faulty. I've already taken it to the garage and am now waiting for the diagnosis. Last service was at 84470 km. Let's hope the repair will be cheaper than on your C5!

Hey, thanks for the info. That sounds like quite a few problems at once. If it really is the intake valve, that could indeed be an expensive repair. Since your C6 is a diesel, I can say from my experience that you should pay attention to the particulate filter. If it's gone, that could also be causing some of the symptoms. Let's hope it won't be too expensive. Let us know what the garage says. Good luck with it!

Hello, thank you for your advice. You're right, there are a lot of problems at once. I would never have thought that the particulate filter could cause such symptoms, but I will definitely take it up with the garage. I also hope that the repair won't be too expensive. I'll keep you posted as soon as I have more information. Thanks again for your help!

Hello, after taking the car to the workshop to tell me what was the fault, by the way my car is a C4 Gran Picasso 1.2 pure tech 96kw year 2015, the only thing they did was to delete the breakdowns and tell me that it was a power failure, today January 2, 2025, when I was starting a relatively long trip, just over 1000 km, before the first hour of travel has returned to me the same notification notice, with which I will see what answer they give me this time and depending on it I will take action on the matter, perhaps proceeding to the replacement of the corresponding sensor and checking the rest to see its status. I will keep you informed.

It sounds like you're dealing with a recurring issue. If the workshop only cleared the error codes without addressing the underlying problem, it's likely the issue will persist. It could be a sensor issue as you mentioned, but it could also be a more complex problem. I recommend having a thorough diagnostic run on your vehicle to pinpoint the exact cause. Once you've done that, please update us on the situation.

Hi, I know your problem. I had a similar situation with my 2004 Citroen C5. In terms of car know-how, I'm a typical car enthusiast with a bit of experience. When I took my car to the garage, they discovered that my camshaft timing was faulty, due to worn rubber sealing rings. It was quite an expensive fix, to be honest, cost around 1620 euros. But after that the car was great again. Can you tell me a bit more about your car? What kind of engine does it have? Are there any other symptoms? It might help to have a clearer picture. Hope this helps.
