Problems with Citroen diesel SpaceTourer: loss of power, black smoke and DPF regeneration fault
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Citroen diesel SpaceTourer is experiencing a loss of power, black smoke emission, and a bad exhaust smell, with a DPF regeneration fault indicated. The core problem is suspected to be a clogged or defective diesel particulate filter (DPF), possibly due to frequent short trips that prevent proper regeneration. Suggested solutions include having a professional diagnosis at a garage to confirm the DPF issue or check for a potential sensor malfunction.

Hello, thank you for your quick reply. The car now has 110419 kilometers on the clock. Apart from that, the exhaust also smells when idling, although not as strongly. It was last serviced just under a year ago. Of course I will go to the garage, I just wanted to get a few opinions first. You have really helped me, so thank you again! Greetings

Hello again, I'm glad I could help. Given the mileage of your car, it is quite possible that the particulate filter is the culprit. This would also explain the problem with the black smoke and the smell, as the filter is then no longer able to filter the pollutants correctly. In my opinion, it is also quite possible that the particulate filter has reached an uncleaned or even clogged state, especially if the vehicle is frequently used for short journeys. At least that's what happened in my case. But of course it doesn't necessarily have to be the same for you. The issue with the Check Engine Light could also indicate a sensor that is out of place. In any case, I would recommend that you have a professional diagnosis carried out in a workshop. They will definitely be able to help you and clearly identify the problem. Good luck with that and let us know how it turns out, will you? I wish you a stress-free solution to the problem! Greetings

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer me again! All this info makes perfect sense. To be honest, I mostly only use the car for short trips - so it's very possible that this is the reason for the clogged particulate filter and the regeneration fault. I hadn't even considered the sensor thing, but it also sounds plausible. I'll take your advice and definitely make an appointment at the garage to get a professional diagnosis. I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Thanks again for your help and advice! Greetings

Hey, had a similar problem with my 2017 Citroën Berlingo. My experience with cars is halfway okay, so I'm no expert, but I know a bit about it. In my case, the diesel particulate filter was defective due to high mileage, just as it sounds like yours is. It cost me around 1550 euros at the time. So it wasn't exactly cheap, but at least the problem was fixed. For further information, it would be helpful if you could provide some more information about the current condition of your car. How many kilometers have you driven and when was the last service? Does the exhaust only smell when you accelerate or also when idling? This is the only way to make a more precise diagnosis. However, there could also be other causes, so it would certainly make sense to ask your garage, as they know your car best. Good luck with that!
