Problems with Citroen DS4 2012: Engine shuts down and loses power

Car won't start

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Longer cold start time

Engine shuts off by itself

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2012 Citroen DS4 petrol engine. Recently the check engine light has come on, the engine shuts itself off and has also lost more power. It takes longer than usual to start when cold, the engine runs rough, it jerks when accelerating and sometimes it won't start at all. I have the feeling that something is wrong with the fuel pump. Has anyone ever had similar experiences and can give me tips on how to rectify the problem? I would be particularly interested to know how this was solved in the workshop and what experiences you have had with it. Any help is welcome. Thank you!

Hi, I'm definitely not an automotive expert, but I recently had a similar problem with my 2010 Citroen DS5. It turned out that the cause was incorrect software values for the fuel pump. After I took the car to the garage, the mechanic solved this problem and only cost me 45 euros. This could also be the case for you. But in order to provide you with more accurate help, it would be helpful if you could share additional information about your vehicle, such as the exact mileage and when the last inspection took place. Hopefully I have been able to help you a little further, good luck with the troubleshooting.

Hello, thank you for your reply. My DS4 has 195435 kilometers on the clock and the last service was about 6 months ago. The wrong software for the fuel pump is an interesting idea. I'll bring it up at my next visit to the garage. It's really cool that you were able to fix it for only 45 euros. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be that cheap for me too. Thanks for your offer of help!

Hey, no problem, we're all here to help each other! With almost 200 thousand kilometers on the odometer and a relatively recent inspection, the diagnosis could well point to the fuel pump software. My tip would be to discuss the exact problem in more detail with the garage and possibly have a fault analysis carried out. This shouldn't usually be too expensive and can help you to localize the exact problem. And if it really is just the software, then it shouldn't be too expensive to fix. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have the same smooth outcome as I did. Good luck and let us know how it goes, jo?

Good morning, my car Citroen Ds4 1.6 gasoline 120 hp 2012 150,000 km. It starts up fine, the engine runs fine even at idle but after a few minutes (1/3) at any rpm, whether stationary or moving it shuts off. Immediately after that you can turn it back on and the continues to run well even at idle until it shuts off again. Diagnostics detect no abnormalities, fuel pressure is there and no warning lights, engine or otherwise, come on. Has this happened to you guys before? MIlle thanks

It sounds like your Citroen DS4 might be experiencing an issue with the ignition system or fuel delivery. Since the diagnostics are not showing any abnormalities, I would suggest checking the ignition coil and spark plugs. If these are in good condition, you might want to consider inspecting the fuel injectors and the fuel pump. If the problem persists, it would be best to have a mechanic look at it to avoid any potential safety issues. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
