Problems with Citroen Nemo (2007) - Engine off, loss of power and metal shavings in the oil

Hi guys, I have noticed some problems with my Citroen Nemo (gasoline, year 2007) lately. The indicator light is on and the engine just switches off. It also suffers from loss of power, runs rough, won't start and makes strange noises. I have also found metal shavings in the oil. I think the problem could have to do with the position of the crankshaft to camshaft. Have any of you had similar experiences or any troubleshooting tips? It would be particularly interesting to hear how your workshop solved the problem. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The Citroen Nemo (2007) is experiencing issues such as the engine switching off, loss of power, rough running, difficulty starting, and strange noises. Additionally, metal shavings were found in the oil, which could indicate a problem with the crankshaft to camshaft position. A similar issue was resolved by replacing an elongated timing chain in another vehicle. However, due to the high cost of this repair, it's recommended to get a thorough diagnosis from an independent garage before making a decision. It may also be worth considering whether investing in a new car is a more cost-effective solution.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Citroen Berlingo. I'm not a professional but have a bit of experience with cars. When I noticed the same symptoms with my car, I took it to a garage. They found that the timing chain was elongated. It had to be replaced and it cost me 1320 euros. Can you give me the exact model name and engine of your car? Perhaps I can then help you further. It would also be good to know how many kilometers your car has already driven.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Interesting, so it could actually be the timing chain. My Nemo currently has 125335 KM km on it and had an inspection the other day. Maybe I should just take it to the garage to have it checked. But 1320 euros is a lot of money... I really have to think about it first. Do you have any other tips?

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! Yes, the repairs can be really expensive, especially when important parts like the timing chain are affected. In my opinion, it would be a good idea to have the car properly diagnosed first. It could be that there are less expensive problems causing the same symptoms. See if you can find an independent garage near you that might be able to help you. They are often cheaper than brand-name garages. And yes, it's always worth checking whether it's really worth replacing the timing chain or whether it might be smarter to think about buying a new car. Do a thorough diagnosis first and ask a few friends who know a lot about cars. Hope this helps you!

Hello, thank you again! That's really good advice. Getting a second opinion and doing careful diagnostics before making any decisions sounds really sensible. It's a difficult decision to make whether to do repairs or whether it would make more sense to invest in a new car, but your advice has really helped me to make sense of it all. I'll have a look around the area and see which garages are around. Maybe I'll find someone who can help me with this. Thanks again for your help!
