Problems with diesel Citroën Jumper 2011: smoke, hissing noises and irregular engine running

Hello everyone, I urgently need your advice. My 2011 diesel Citroën Jumper has been causing trouble recently. When accelerating, there is black smoke from the exhaust and loud hissing noises. The check engine light comes on, the engine runs irregularly and there is a shrill whistling noise. The response is also strange - it has lost a lot of power, jerks when accelerating and simply stalls when idling. Oh yes, it also wobbles quite a bit at idle. I somehow suspect that it's the boost pressure regulator. Have any of you ever had this and can perhaps tell me how it was solved in the workshop and what experiences you have had with it? Any help is welcome. Thank you!

Hello, I have experienced a similar situation with my 2009 Citroën Berlingo Diesel. I'm not an expert, but I do have a bit of car knowledge and I discovered that the problem was actually the boost pressure actuator. The boost pressure actuator was electrically defective. They replaced the part in the workshop and then my car ran as normal again. The repair cost me 1520 euros, which was a bit expensive, but necessary to get the car running again. To be able to help you more accurately, it would be helpful if you could give me more details about your car. What mileage does your Jumper have? When was the last time it was serviced and what work was carried out? That way I might be able to give you a few more tips or advice based on my own experience.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and the tip. My Jumper now has 45126 KM on it. The last inspection was about 6 months ago, when only the oil was changed and the brakes checked. No particular problems or abnormalities at that time. Since then it has actually been running quite well until the current problems arose. Unfortunately, the boost pressure regulator sounds plausible... Do you have any ideas on what else to check if necessary and whether I can have this done at an independent garage? I would be grateful for any advice!

Hi, first of all I'm glad I was able to help you a little. Given the mileage, it's not unusual for the boost pressure regulator to give up the ghost. I would strongly advise you to have it checked, preferably at a specialist workshop of course. Because if the boost pressure regulator is defective, it should be replaced quickly, otherwise you could ruin the turbocharger if you continue driving. As for the second question, yes, it's perfectly fine to go to an independent garage. You can trust them, they are just as competent. What's more, it's often a bit cheaper than at an authorized workshop. I would also recommend that you have the air flow meter checked or have it checked. I hope I have been able to help you. Have a safe journey and good luck with solving the problem!

Hello, thank you very much for your advice! It is reassuring that the problem is not atypical for this mileage. Your information is very helpful. I'll have it checked at an independent garage, that sounds reasonable in terms of cost. And that's a good tip about the mass air flow sensor, I'll have that checked straight away too. Thanks for your help and the sound advice! I hope that this solves the problem and that I will soon be able to drive again without any problems. Have a good trip too!
