Problems with diesel Renault Trafic 2011: Engine indicator light, loss of power and uneven engine running

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with my diesel Renault Trafic built in 2011. The check engine light is on, loss of power in the engine, rough engine running, it jerks when accelerating, has stalled a few times when idling and black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating. Have any of you had experience with these symptoms? I am of the opinion that it could be due to a deviation in the engine's intake volume, but I am not 100% sure. What exactly was done in the workshop to fix the problem? I am grateful for any advice!

Summary of the thread

A 2011 diesel Renault Trafic is experiencing issues such as the check engine light being on, loss of power, rough engine running, jerking during acceleration, stalling when idling, and black smoke from the exhaust. The suspected cause is a deviation in the engine's intake volume, potentially due to a leaking intake system. The suggested solution is to have the intake system checked and possibly replaced at a garage to resolve the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I went through something similar with my 2009 Renault Megane. I have some experience with cars, call me an enthusiastic amateur. The problem for me was the intake system was leaking. It cost about 425 euros to get it fixed at the garage. They replaced the leaking part and everything ran like clockwork again. But without more information about your vehicle, I obviously can't say whether it's the same problem for you. Can you perhaps give me a few more details about your vehicle? That would help me to help you more precisely. It might be helpful for you to have a look at the condition of the intake system. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip, buddy! My Trafic already has 144168 km on the clock. Driving hasn't been the same since the last service. I'll probably have it checked. Good to know that was your problem. I'll check the condition of the intake system and then probably have it replaced in the workshop. I hope that solves the problem.

Hey, you're welcome! With such a high mileage, it may well be that the intake system is already leaking a bit. That was exactly the case with my Megane. It's really important that you have it checked at the garage. If the symptoms are as obvious as you describe, you shouldn't wait too long. Don't let it lead to even greater damage. In the end, it wasn't that bad for me, as it was "only" the leaking part in the intake system. I hope that this is also the cause in your case and that it can be fixed quickly. Keep your fingers crossed! It would of course be great if you could give us feedback here in the forum as to what exactly it was, maybe that will help others too. Keep us up to date and good luck!

Yes, sure, I'll keep you up to date! I'm going to the garage tomorrow and will let you know what exactly they did and if it helped. Thanks again for the advice mate! Never thought it could be the intake system. You guys are great! See you then.
