Problems with electrical failures and weak battery in VW T5 from 2006

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Fault stored

General electric malfunction

Hello everyone! I have a problem with my 2006 VW T5. It's been acting up recently with general electrical failures, error message in the on-board computer, low battery when starting and lights going dim or even flickering. I have a suspicion that maybe terminal 30 is broken, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar problems before and can give me some tips on how best to tackle the problem? How did you get it solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2008 VW Golf. I would classify myself as someone with little experience in cars, but I was able to have the problem solved in a garage. In my case, the on-board control unit was defective. The repair cost me 1000 euros, which was a hefty sum, but since then my car has been running like clockwork again. Can you perhaps tell us a bit more about your T5 to help more? How many kilometers has it run and when was the last time you changed the battery?

Hello, thanks for the answer! My T5 already has a proud 220455 km on the clock. I had the last service done about six months ago. However, the battery is already quite old, so it could be that it's giving up the ghost. It would probably be a good idea to replace it. Thanks for the tip about the electrical system control unit, I'll have that checked at the next workshop visit. It's quite a lot of money, but if it works again afterwards, it's worth it.

Yes, given the mileage and age of your VW T5, it's quite possible that the battery simply needs replacing. This should actually be done every 5 years or so, even if it still seems OK. Your symptoms actually sound like an on-board control unit fault, at least that was the case with my Golf. But have it checked at the garage. Yes, the cost of the on-board control unit was steep, but I haven't had any problems since. It's definitely important that you tackle this soon, otherwise it could cause even more problems. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi, thanks for the further input! I will definitely change the battery and have the on-board control unit checked. The cost isn't nice of course, but what the heck, safety first. I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news and let you know how it goes. Have a good time and thanks again for your help!
