Problems with flickering lights and weak battery when starting a Mercedes ML Class Diesel 2005

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my 2005 Mercedes ML class diesel. The lights are dimming or flickering occasionally and the battery seems to be low when starting. I suspect a fault with the vehicle battery sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had a problem like this and can give me a tip? How did you get this solved at your garage and what were your experiences? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Mercedes GL Class Diesel. I would describe myself as someone with a bit of car experience. When the problem occurred, I went straight to the garage. They then replaced the battery sensor microprocessor as it was defective. That cost me 315 euros. But to be able to help you better, I would need a bit more information about your car. Are there any other symptoms or special features that you have noticed?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My little darling has about 66695 km on it and the last service was recently. I haven't really noticed any other symptoms, it's running smoothly so far...except for that damn flickering and the low battery of course. Of course, 315 euros is a bit of a hit, but if it helps...I'll see if I can have it checked at my garage. Has anyone else had experience with a battery sensor problem like this?

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Yes, with these mileage figures it can happen that one or other sensor gets a knock. Flickering and a weak battery are typical signs of this. The 315 euros are of course a lot to pay at first, but believe me, it's money well spent. I haven't had any problems since replacing it. It's best to have it checked out. Maybe someone else here will have another idea, but I wouldn't wait too long if I were you. Better safe than sorry, I always say!

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice! Yes, that sounds really conclusive. It's good that you haven't had any problems since replacing the sensor. That gives me hope! The 315 euros are of course steep, but if it helps, then it's worth it. I'll definitely take it up with my garage and have it checked. If anyone else has another suggestion or wants to share their experience, please let me know. But as you say, better safe than sorry. Better to invest now than have more trouble later.
