Problems with Ford Maverick 2005: warning light, central locking and starting difficulties

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Locking/Unlocking issue

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2005 Ford Maverick with gasoline engine. It shows different symptoms: Warning light in the speedometer, central locking goes crazy and it just won't start. Somehow I thought it might be the Hall sensor for the ignition key. Have any of you had similar experiences and can perhaps give me some troubleshooting tips? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Ford Escape. I'm not a professional, but would describe myself as someone with some experience with cars. My control unit was defective. I had to have it replaced in the workshop. Cost me about 600 euros there. Seems like this might also be the case for you. To be on the safe side, however, I would recommend having a professional take a look. Could you perhaps give more details about your car? How many kilometers has it already done? Does the battery still have enough juice? This could help to narrow down the fault further. Hopefully you'll get it fixed quickly!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the tip. Unfortunately, I already have 128411 km on the odometer and there were no major abnormalities at the last service. The battery also seems to be in good condition. I'll have the control unit checked, hopefully it won't be too expensive. It was really annoying having to run to the garage all the time. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! Since you've already driven over 128 0 km, there could actually be a wear problem (in my case it occurred at around 120 0 km). You could have other possible causes checked before an expensive ECU replacement. What about the fuse box? Sometimes a blown fuse can cause such crazy symptoms. Have you had a look at it? A defect in the lock cylinder or in the electrical wiring could also be the cause. Don't forget to have the fault memory read out if you haven't already done so. This can help to detect and solve other problems. But of course, as you said, sometimes it can also be the control unit. Hope it gets resolved for you soon, I know how annoying these problems can be. In any case, let us know what comes out!

Hey, thanks for the advice. I haven't checked the fuse box and the lock cylinder yet. I'll do that next. Reading out the fault memory also sounds sensible, I'll tackle that too. I really hope that this will find the fault and that it's not the control unit. I'll keep you up to date with the results. I really appreciate your help! Thanks again and see you soon!
