Problems with gearbox and ABS warning light on Peugeot 1007 - tips and solutions wanted

Whining or grinding noises

ABS warning light

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hello everyone, I have problems with my Peugeot 1007 (built in 2009, gasoline engine). The car is behaving very strangely - the gearbox is slipping and shifting irregularly, the ABS warning light is illuminated and there are strange howling or grinding noises. I suspect that it could be due to the transfer case emergency running control. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I'm particularly interested in how you solved the problem in the workshop. I look forward to hearing your experiences! Thanks in advance.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 207 (built in 2007). Not exactly an expert, but I have a bit of experience with cars. The mechanic at my garage said it was a control unit that was faulty. After a thorough diagnosis, it was changed and it cost me 525 euros. Now the car is running like a champ again. Perhaps more information about your car could be helpful to help you more accurately. For example, has your car shown any other symptoms or fault codes? Hope this helps a little!

Hello, thank you for your quick reply! My Peugeot has run 74684 KM and the last service was recently. There are no other symptoms or fault codes, just the trouble I mentioned. Your experience is very helpful, I will have the transfer case and ECU checked at the garage. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Given the mileage of your car and the year of manufacture, it can of course also affect wearing parts. As you don't have an extra fault code, it's probably really best to have the car thoroughly checked again in the workshop. An irregular gearshift and ABS warning light could have several causes, but you're certainly not wrong with your assumption about the transfer case. The control unit is also definitely a plausible explanation. It would be interesting to know whether the problems occur immediately when you start the car, or only after some driving time? In my case, the problem occurred sporadically, so it wasn't always present. Still, it's good that you reacted so quickly! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the repair won't be too expensive. Let me know what the final result is. I'm looking forward to it!

Hello again, unfortunately the problems often occur immediately on starting. However, it has also happened that they only occur later, after I have driven a bit. I'll take your feedback on board and let the workshop know about the control unit and the transfer case. I'll definitely keep you posted. Thanks again for your help and fingers crossed!

It sounds like you might be having an issue with your transmission control module. This module is responsible for controlling your vehicle's transmission, including shifting and gear engagement. I would recommend having a mechanic inspect this for you. If you're comfortable doing so, you could also check the transmission fluid level and condition. Low or dirty fluid can sometimes cause these types of issues. Please let us know how you get on.
