Problems with heating/cooling and defrosting mirror in an Opel Tigra built in 2006
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
An Opel Tigra built in 2006 is experiencing weak heating/cooling and a non-functional defrosting mirror, particularly in cool weather. The suspected cause is a faulty water valve in the cooling circuit, which can affect the flow of water through the radiator, leading to these issues. A suggested solution is to replace the water valve, which can be attempted as a DIY fix if the owner is handy, or alternatively, the car can be taken to a garage for professional repair.

Greetings, thank you very much for the helpful answer! I have the Opel Tigra as a 1.8 Sport with a gasoline engine. The problems mainly occur in cool weather. Especially when it's time to scrape ice, it feels like it takes forever to de-ice the windows. Fuel consumption has been slightly higher since then and it no longer warms up properly on long journeys. During the last service at 89496 km, nothing conspicuous was found. Is there any chance that I can fix this myself or should I go straight to a mechanic?

Hey, thanks for the additional details. Your problem sounds like a classic case of a faulty water valve. In cooler weather, the valve can indeed cause problems. It controls the flow of water through the radiator, and if it's not working properly, it can lead to weak heating and poor performance, just as you described. I don't have any expert training, but if you're a bit handy and have access to the right tools, you could try replacing the valve yourself. The internet is full of instructions on how to do this. But please be careful and make sure you do everything right - an incorrectly installed valve can lead to further problems. If you're not sure, it might be best to take the car to a garage. Are you a member of the ADAC? I'm sure they can recommend a good garage near you. I hope that helps you. Let us know how it goes. Have a safe journey!

Hello, that's very good advice, thank you! Yes, I'm handy and have already found various tutorials. I think I'll try it myself first and if it doesn't work, I'll take it to the garage. I'm actually in the ADAC, so that shouldn't be a problem either. Thanks for the helpful support! I'll let you know when I've fixed it. See you then, all the best!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2004 Opel Corsa. I have little experience with cars, but I took my car to the garage and they found that the cable connection and the plug from the water valve were faulty. It cost me 155.0 euros to fix this. Could you please give me more information about your car and the specific problems so I could give you more details and help? Which model variant is it and when does the problem occur most frequently?
