Problems with keyless entry and lighting on Audi Q5 (diesel, 2016) - looking for tips and workshop experience

Hello, I have a strange problem with my Audi Q5 (diesel engine, year of manufacture 2016). The car won't lock or unlock and the lights flicker or are dim. I think maybe a malfunction of the keyless entry system is the culprit. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me tips on how to rectify them? I would be particularly interested to know how your garage solved the problem and what experiences you have had. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

An Audi Q5 owner is experiencing issues with the keyless entry system and flickering or dim lights. A possible cause suggested is a malfunction in the keyless entry system, potentially due to a faulty cable connection to the door handle electronics. A similar issue was resolved in another vehicle by replacing a defective cable connection. The owner plans to discuss this potential solution with their garage.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Audi Q7 (built in 2014). My experience with cars is rather limited as I am not a car mechanic, but I can say that I was satisfied with my garage. In my case, the cable connection to the outside door handle electronics was defective. The problem was solved by replacing the defective cable connection. The cost was 170 euros. Could you please share more information about your vehicle, e.g. whether you have already had problems with the electronics? That would help us to help you better.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I haven't had any major problems with the electronics in the past. The rig has run 68137 km and the last full service was about 6 months ago. Your explanation sounds plausible, after all a faulty cable connection could explain the symptoms. I'll take this up with my garage. Thanks to you!

Hello again, no problem, glad to help. Yes, checking the cable connections is a good first step. Mine also had about the same mileage as yours when this problem occurred. The symptoms sound really similar. You never know with this electronic equipment; sometimes it can be something as simple as a loose or damaged wire connection. Let me know what your garage finds out, I'm keenly interested. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't get too expensive!
